DIY Thanksgiving Place Cards with Printable Clipart (Free Layout Guide)
Make Thanksgiving place cards and dinner menus at home with PNG clipart – card sizes, a simple Canva layout, paper choices and printing tips.
Place cards are the easiest way to make a Thanksgiving table feel planned. With a few PNG illustrations and card stock you can make a full set in an evening.
What you need
- Thanksgiving clipart PNGs with transparent backgrounds
- Card stock, 80–110 lb (216–300 gsm), in white or cream
- A home printer, scissors or a paper trimmer
- Canva, Word or any app that places images and text
Place card size
The usual tented place card is 3.5 × 4 inches flat, folded to 3.5 × 2 inches. Six fit on one letter or A4 sheet.
Simple layout in Canva
- Create a custom design at 3.5 × 4 inches.
- Add a guide line across the middle – this is the fold.
- Place a small illustration – a pie, a pear or a corner flourish – on the bottom half, so it faces guests when folded.
- Add the guest's name in a clear serif or script font, at least 18 pt.
- Duplicate the page for each guest and change the name.
Matching menu card
Use the same illustrations at the top of a 4 × 9 inch menu card. Group the menu into starters, mains and desserts, with the turkey or pie illustration as the header.
Printing tips
- Print a test sheet on plain paper first to check alignment.
- Set the printer to best quality and the paper type to card stock.
- Score the fold line with a ruler and an empty pen before folding.
Selling place cards
If you sell printed place cards or menus, check that your clipart license allows finished physical products. Most commercial clipart licenses, including the Little Loom Arts license, don't allow selling the design as a digital printable.
